As described in the Kojiki and The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter, beautiful bamboo forests are dotted throughout Japan.
Bamboo baskets have been used as everyday tools in Japan since ancient times, but during the Edo period they also began to be treated as works of art.
Japanese bamboo crafts were brought into the spotlight at the European World Expositions during the Meiji Period.
What began as tools evolved into magnificent works of art and crafts that combined the education, skills, and aesthetic sense of the artisans of the time, and they continue to be popular overseas today, receiving rave reviews.
Masamitsu Saito is one of the world's leading collectors of bamboo baskets and has cooperated and supervised bamboo basket exhibitions at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Musée du Quai Branly in Paris. His Bamboo ART has attracted attention around the world.
He collected a large collection of bamboo basket masterpieces, including those by Iizuka Rokansai.
This time, Ippodo Club will be displaying 35 exceptional bamboo baskets.
