Shota Suzuki's workshop is located in Kanechicho, Higashiyama-ku, Kyoto, an area dotted with temples, east of the Kamo River. The name suggests that the area was a town of bell-casting craftsmen. He sits at a workbench in a corner of the workshop and, as if by magic, creates hyper-realistic flowers from metal.
Suzuki was a boy who was like a botanist. He observed plants from an early age and was fascinated by the beauty and mystery of their shapes. He entered university and majored in metal design at the Faculty of Arts. It was only natural that he became a rare sculptor who creates flowers and plants out of metal.
Dandelion fluff about to fly away on the wind, cherry blossoms exuding a faint fragrance just before they fall, ginkgo leaves dancing in the wind, and thistles growing vigorously in the sunlight...these images depict the fleeting yet brave moments of life itself.
