I have been making pottery for over 50 years. I have been taught the Zen philosophy of wabi-sabi by Master Daiki Tachibana for 35 years, and I have been fascinated by the profound world of wabi-sabi.
While not forgetting this philosophy, Zen teaches that it is important to embrace new changes, and that the tendency to keep changing in pursuit of novelty is the very essence of unchangingness.
I myself am drawn to pottery, as it represents something timeless and exudes beauty even after decades or centuries have passed.

In November, when the leaves change color, the Nomura Museum of Art in Kyoto held its biannual exhibition, attracting many fans from Japan and abroad.
It is said that the posthumous name Genkaku was given to Sugimoto by his preceptor, Kobori Taigen, the head priest of Kenninji Temple, who praised his pottery for possessing the sensibility of an expert.
Ippodo has received masterpieces exhibited at the Nomura Museum of Art, including Shigaraki, Iga, Raku, Goryeo, and Celadon, which are superior to ancient pottery.
