Biography

Born on March 24, 1929 in Arita, Saga Prefecture
He was designated a Living National Treasure in 1995.
Member of the Japan Crafts Council and honorary citizen of Arita Town.
In 1945, he began working under the twelfth generation Sakaida Kakiemon.
Around 1952, he became a student of Chuemon Okugawa and learned white porcelain and wheel-throwing techniques.
In 1958, he left Sakaida Kakiemon Kiln and worked as a technician at the Prefectural Arita Ceramics Testing Station.
In 1969, he became a lecturer on Arita ware at Pennsylvania State University.
His overseas activities include solo exhibitions in Germany and other countries, as well as an exhibition commemorating the 45th anniversary of the King of Monaco's reign in March 2002.

In 1968, he was first selected for the 15th Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition.
In 1977, he received the Minister of International Trade and Industry Award at the National Traditional Crafts Exhibition.
In 1987, he received the Minister of Education Award at the 34th Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition.
On May 31, 1995, it was recognized as a holder of the Important Intangible Cultural Property of "White Porcelain."
In 1997, he was awarded the Purple Ribbon Medal.
