Artist's comment

In the world,
there exist fixed standards such as,
"This is what a correct vessel should be,"
and "This is how a beautiful form should appear."
However, my works
constantly deviate from such outlines.
Collapsing, blending, proliferating,
boundaries become ambiguous,
and eventually, the definition itself wavers.
I perceive existence
not as a completed "state,"
but as a continuous "motion" of change.
A work is
not a finished object,
but a trace of existence continually mutating.

Comment from Ippodo

Kodai Ujiie appeared at Ginza Ichihodo in 2019. Recognizing his extraordinary talent, I held a solo exhibition for him at Ginza Ippodo two months after his arrival. Ujiie never fails to surprise me, exceeding my expectations. This exhibition's theme, "Irregular Wabi," expresses the wabi of the future while not forgetting its origins.
