Shigeru Uchida

As one of Japan's leading interior designers, he is not limited to designing commercial and residential spaces, but is also involved in a wide range of activities both domestically and internationally, from furniture and industrial design to regional development.
It has attracted attention by proposing a tea room with an innovative concept.
Born in Yokohama in 1943
1970: Uchida Design Office established
1987 Mainichi Design Award winner
1998: Awarded the Minister of Education's Art Encouragement Prize
2003: Exhibited at the "Oribe" Exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York
2007: Received the Purple Ribbon Medal
2008 Director of Kuwasawa Design School (-2011)
2011: Received the Tea Ceremony Culture Promotion Award
2013: Awarded the Order of the Rising Sun
Passed away in 2016 at the age of 73
