Collection of works by Ken Matsubara

Ken Matsubara is an artist who met his teacher, Sanko Inoue, in his youth and has worked in abstract expression ever since.
He has sensed worlds invisible to the eye, such as sound, and painted them on the picture plane.
This was born of a longing for the primal origins of human expression free of intention, as at Altamira and Lascaux.
From the works that drew attention in his solo exhibition "Chaos" at the Minneapolis Institute of Art (U.S.) from September 2023 to March 2024, and the "Sun, Moon, Sky and Sea" paintings that may be called one culmination of his career, to the works in the exhibitions now being held concurrently at Wako and Ippodo Gallery, this single volume records the course of his painting from his early works to the present.
