Exhibition view
The city of Tokyo is being destroyed.
Large buildings and famous structures have been crushed beneath the fences at some point.
Rubble that holds memories and the time of people.
Todo sandwiches laminated glass between the rubble.
Todo's glass sculptures bring to life the stories of the place, the lives of the people and the time that has passed.
Todo is an artist who continues to create works based on the theme of "uniqueness of place."
He was born in Tokyo in 1969. After graduating from the Graduate School of Sculpture at Tama Art University in 1997, he studied at the University of the Arts Düsseldorf and received his Master's degree (MA) from Professor Daniel Buren in 2003.
He is known for his works that use rubble and books as materials that tell the story of human history.
This time, Ippodo will be showcasing Todo's world through an installation of over 10 works made from rubble generated during the demolition of buildings such as Hotel Okura Tokyo, Jingu Pool, and Tama New Town housing complex.
