Born in Nagoya in 1966. Moved to Tokyo in 1967.
After graduating from Dartington Hall School in the UK, he entered Waseda University and studied the history of modern crafts.
After graduating, he studied ceramic theory and practice at the Graduate School of Goldsmiths, University of London.
After returning to Japan, he became acquainted with the ceramic artist Ryoji Koie.
His unique style and designs, which combine classical elements with modernism, have attracted attention and he has received high praise, especially in the field of tea ceremony ceramics.
He has held numerous exhibitions at galleries around the country, and continues to present innovative works.
He is also involved in many activities to promote arts and culture, including serving as executive chairman of the Machida Short Film Festival.
In recent years, he has also been devoting himself to early childhood education, serving as a director of the Showa Gakuen School Corporation and as an arts instruction advisor and lecturer at the kindergarten run by the corporation.
He is also a multi-artist who works extensively as a music producer, composer, and musician.
The translation is "In a lavender garden."
His grandfather was the ceramist Toto Yano, and his father was the photographer Shinpei Asai.
