Actress and ceramic sculptor, Mieko Yuki.
Her father is a diplomat and her mother is a painter. She transferred to a new school in the first grade of elementary school in Japan and grew up abroad, in countries such as the UK, Turkey, Ceylon and Sweden, following her diplomat father, before returning to Japan as an adult. Wanting to express something, she studied ballet, music and theater, and became an actress in Japan. While working as an actress, her talent also led her to create figures of close friends and animals out of clay, and she quickly became a popular artist both at home and abroad. Her works have a rare, stateless dynamism and presence. Sometimes vivid, sometimes grotesque, sometimes strange. Her nostalgic and sometimes mysterious shapes are filled with the strength she developed as a child growing up abroad and her gentle love for humans.
