Shuji Nakagawa

Born in Kyoto City in 1968.
Graduated from Kyoto Seika University Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Sculpture in 1992.
Upon graduation, he studied under his father, Seiji (a holder of an Important Intangible Cultural Property) at Nakagawa Woodcraft.
Won the Excellence Award at the Kyoto Art and Crafts Exhibition in 1996.
Won the Grand Prize at the 1998 Kyoto Art and Crafts Exhibition.
From 2001 to 2005, he worked as a part-time lecturer at Kyoto University of Art and Design.
In 2003, he opened Nakagawa Woodcraft Hira Studio in Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture.
In 2010, we created the official Dom Pérignon champagne cooler.
In 2015, the Jindai cedar KI-OKE stool became part of the permanent collection of the V&A Museum in London.
In 2017, he was a finalist in the first Loewe Craft Prize.
He has also held numerous solo and group exhibitions both in Japan and overseas. He has been a member of Go-on, a group of young traditional craft artisans in Kyoto, since its inception.
